The iron and steel swords have occupied a long and important position in the history of China. They were the predominant form of weaponry for many dynasties.

When their usage was reduced in the battles because of the advancement of firearms, the sword carrying soldiers and guards become necessary parts of every 

official functions and royal ceremonies.  In addition, swords are treasured by the nobles and riches to illustrate their social rankings.

The purpose of this book is to present a systematic introduction of this complex and illustrious topics. Descriptions and evaluations are given in the book

 to every important sword, the shift of functions of swords through the history and the reflection of the shift with time in its form and style, design and 

decoration, production and materials used of swords.

The author, Mr. Alex J. Huangfu, is a graduate of the prestigious Beijing University, and has a rich background in Chinese culture and civilization.  

His love of swords starts right after graduation from college and in his late twenties, and has devoted his time and energy to study the sword for than 

twenty years.  Mr. Huangfu is now recognized as one of the prominent sword expert and collector in China.  He has written a number of articles for 

professional magazines and been interviewed by many national and local television stations including  CCTV (Beijing) and Phoenix TV (Hong Kong).
